Transforming a workshop into a loft
Located in a residential neighbourhood along the CFF railway tracks between Lausanne and Prilly-Malley, on the route of the future tram line, the 1930 building is part of a listed architectural ensemble (note 3) recognised for its local significance. The project focuses on the conversion of a former workshop located on the first floor of the building’s commercial and artisanal base into a residential unit.
Positioned at the corner of the street, the space is characterised by its rounded façade and numerous openings on three sides, offering generous natural light. The renovation aims to fully enhance this quality by reorganising the layout into two bedrooms, a bathroom, a separate WC, a storage room, and a spacious living area with an open kitchen, enabling flexible furnishing arrangements.
The original asbestos-containing floors were safely removed and replaced with warm wooden parquet and tiled surfaces, while the wall and ceiling paints were refreshed. New exterior fabric projection blinds now provide flexible light control. Finally, the entire electrical installation was upgraded, and the sanitary and heating systems were checked and completed.
